Project Summary

A considerable amount of research has been undertaken on operational safety associated with the safe preparation, dispatch, signalling and driving of trains.  This guide pulls together summaries of this research in one document to provide a useful resource to assist industry with accessing relevant information.

Project Abstract

Project Briefs are hosted on
Operations Focus Group (OFG) suggested that duty holders would benefit from having access to a digest of all research delivered by the RSSB-managed research programme regarding operational safety issues. The content of this booklet has been produced in-house by RSSB. The benefit of this guide is that it communicates the outputs of the research in this area to ensure that the work is widely accessible. For industry personnel who are short on time and need a general overview of research in specific areas, this booklet provides a handy snapshot of research completed and in progress. It should also support the initiatives which are in development to help with the implementation of research outcomes and the realisation of the benefits from undertaking the research.  Printed copies of this booklet can be requested by e-mailing
