A HV coupler is a technology in its very early phases. There has been a patent and further industry talk about the potential implications but there has been little done in the region of feasibility assessments. This project looks to assess the performance, safety and economic feasibility of a HV coupler. If this project proves the HV coupler to be a feasible technology to introduce (inspiring product development) this could allow greater energy distribution across a 12-car train and reduce the pant/OLE requirements. This means that only one pantograph would have to be erected and the train could run at greater speeds.
